Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital (SSMH) offers area residents the latest in specialized surgical techniques, including videoscopic surgery, laser surgery, arthroscopy, and joint replacement. Many surgical procedures are performed on a same-day basis, and patients may return home just hours after surgery.
Videoscopic Surgery
A revolutionary method of performing major abdominal surgery, videoscopic surgery offers patients smaller incisions, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, and a faster recovery. Several types of videoscopic surgery are performed at SSMH:
- Nissen fundoplication (for treatment of chronic heartburn)
- Videoscopically assisted hysterectomy
- Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
- Hernia repair
- Appendectomy
- Bowel resection
In addition, the following procedures are also performed videoscopically at SSMH:
- Gynecological surgery, including ovarian cystectomy, treatment of endometriosis, and fertility evaluation
- Biopsy of intra-abdominal organs
- Release of intra-abdominal scarring (adhesions)
