Injuring your back at work can be incredibly painful, but trying to return to work without proper therapy and healing can make matters even worse—putting you at risk for re-injury. The Spinal Rehabilitation and Work Center offers spinal and back muscle rehabilitation and treatment. Dr. Steven Heffner helps employees suffering from injuries before they return to work and reduces the risk of re-injury.

Steven Heffner, DC
Chiropractor
Diplomate, McKenzie Therapy

Through spinal rehabilitation and work hardening, Dr. Heffner helps employees suffering from back injuries to reduce the risk of re-injury before they return to work.

To strengthen weakened spinal muscles, Dr. Heffner begins with basic lumbar stabilization and progresses to functional core stabilization (strengthening the specific spinal muscles necessary for activities of daily living). Once the core muscles are strengthened, exercises are performed to mimic the patient's job duties in a supervised environment. When these exercises can be performed for longer time periods, on-time work hardening is performed until the patient has returned to his or her full duty status.

If there is any question of the patient's safety prior to returning to work, a standardized functional capacity evaluation is performed to clearly define the patient's abilities and deficits before returning to work.

Another of Dr. Heffner's techniques is McKenzie therapy, a self-treatment program of specific exercises for patients with recurring headaches or neck, back, and extremity pain. The program empowers the patient to reduce, eliminate, and prevent reoccurrences of pain.
